let’s dive deep into a beloved book of the bible this summer!

This July, Arborlawn is embarking on a Summer of Psalms, a sermon series inspired by this year's Vacation Bible School theme, Rainforest Falls, which draws its daily scripture from the book of Psalms. Over the next five weeks, we'll explore several types of psalms including messianic, praise, wisdom, lament, thanksgiving, and royal, though biblical scholars recognize many more categories beyond what we'll have time to cover. More than anything, the psalms feel less like carefully categorized literature and more like honest, heartfelt expressions written with raw candor, which makes them just as alive and relevant today as when they were first penned. Each Sunday will kick off a new psalm type for the week. Alongside our sermons, Arborlawn is offering a 31-day devotional guide (below) shaped with contributions from Pastor Christie, Pastor David, Ken Cockerham, and Debbie Cockerham to help us all go deeper together whether you're at home dodging the Texas heat or adventuring somewhere across the globe. The psalms were never meant to be read passively; they were written to be sung, prayed, spoken aloud, and truly lived, and we invite you to experience them that way as we journey through this Summer of Psalms together.
