A community during all Seasons of Life

Through the Congregational Care Ministry, Arborlawn is here as your community during all seasons of life. In the life of the church, there are special ceremonies of our faith that we celebrate together in community, such as baptisms, weddings, and memorials. Learn about these events in the life of the church below.

Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament of our faith and is the initiation into covenant with God, where we are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit.

Who should be baptized?

People of all ages can be baptized at Arborlawn. Non-members are encouraged to seek membership as soon as possible after being baptized. We regularly baptize by sprinkling Holy Water, but baptism by immersion is available upon request outside.

The United Methodist Church recognizes baptisms from other Christian denominations and therefore does not “re-baptize” people. However, we encourage people to reaffirm their baptismal vows, recognizing that, compared to God, we are not always faithful to our promises.

When do baptisms occur?

Baptism by sprinkling can occur in all three of our worship services on select Sundays. Baptisms by immersion occur as separate services outdoors or at another location.

How do I schedule a baptism?

Baptism by sprinkling and immersion are scheduled in advance for all three of our worship services. Contact Rev. Joy Dister-Dominguez at Joy@ArborlawnUMC.org or by calling the church office to set up a meeting to discuss our theology, the importance of baptism, and to schedule an appropriate date.

Weddings

Sanctuary.jpg

A wedding is the Christian celebration of a couple's love and commitment to each other and to God. This sacred ceremony, in which you enter into a covenant with God and one another, creates the foundation for your marriage. By choosing to be married by a representative of God’s Church, you are inviting God’s presence in your wedding and purposely asking for God’s blessing upon the marriage.

Ceremony venues

Weddings at Arborlawn can be held in the Sanctuary or the Elizabeth Cramer Chapel. The Sanctuary is a beautifully-designed space that seats up to 1,100 and features the 106-rank Garland Pipe Organ and Steinway grand piano. The Elizabeth Cramer Chapel seats just under 200 and features gorgeous stained glass which makes for the perfect backdrop for your wedding ceremony. The Chapel is equipped with small organ and baby grand piano.

For more intimate ceremonies, the Jud Cramer Ascension Garden provides a peaceful and beautiful outdoor venue. This space can carry special meaning for couples who have loved ones inurned in the Columbarium. You can learn more about the Jud Cramer Ascension Garden by clicking the link.

Scheduling your wedding

Weddings at Arborlawn are typically scheduled on Saturdays, but can be scheduled throughout the week based on availability. To schedule your wedding ceremony, contact Matt Morrison, Ministry Support Coordinator, at Matt@ArborlawnUMC.org or by calling the church office.

Funerals & Memorial Services

Funerals or Memorials are services of Christian worship that praise God and witness to our faith in the resurrection and hope of new creation as we celebrate the life of the one who died and recognize the grief of those gathered in community. These services can be held in the Sanctuary, Elizabeth Cramer Chapel, or the Jud Cramer Ascension Garden. During this difficult time, our Pastors and Staff offer their full support and experience to help ease the burden for you and your family.

Arborlawn is honored to help members and their families plan for these difficult times in advance. Contact Rev. Joy Dister-Dominguez at Joy@ArborlawnUMC.org for resources to begin thinking about the details of your own service or the service of a loved one who is nearing death.

Funerals & Memorials are scheduled based on availability of the worship spaces. Contact Sherry Roth in the Church Office at 817-731-0701 to begin scheduling and planning a service.

Life’s Final Moments

When a death is imminent, our Pastors are honored to come and pray with you. If there is such a time, please call the Church Office at 817-731-0701 and ask for Rev. Joy Dister-Dominguez, Assoc. Pastor of Congregational Care. If this is after office hours, please call the office number and dial 8 for the pastoral emergency line. The pastor on call will reach out as soon as possible.
